OECS Media Release
The OECS Commission joins the global community in support of healthy oceans today, World Oceans Day, under the theme "Our Oceans, Our Future" with the main focus on preventing plastic pollution and cleaning the ocean of marine litter.
While there is one global ocean that connects us all, within it there are five (5) distinct oceans: the Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Indian Ocean, Arctic Ocean, and Southern Ocean. It is hoped, however, that the UN will recognise and embrace the singular "Ocean" as the world engages in efforts to conserve this important resource that connects us all.

Coal
A black or brown rock that can be ignited or burned. When coal burns it produces energy as heat. This heat is mainly used to produce electricity. An increase in the use of coal could lead to a reduction in the need for non-renewable resources ; oil and gas. Coal has developed from the remains of plants that died 400million to 1million years ago. It is referred to as fossil fuel. Coal forming plants probably grew in swamps. No reliable estimates exist for the total amount of coal that lies beneath the earth's surface.
